THYROID:- (Yoga for Thyroid)

It is a medical condition in which there is an effect on the functioning of the thyroid gland. There are mainly two types of thyroid:- (Yoga for Thyroid)

  • Hypothyroidism:- It is caused due to not containing enough thyroid hormones.
  • Hyperthyroidism:- It is caused due to a large number of thyroid hormones.

In both of the types, i.e, hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, there might be swelling of a part of the neck, which is called goiter.

The below-mentioned foods should not be consumed by the person with thyroid problems:-

  • Cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli
  • Non-vegetarian
  • Milk and its products
  • Spicy and fast foods
  • Banana, mango, and grapes
  • Refined and preserved foods


  • Consume a diet rich in fiber content.
  • Avoid consumption of fats and carbohydrate.
  • Consume more green and leafy vegetables.
  • Intake seasonal fruits.
  • Ginger
  • Black walnut, which contains iodine and nourishes the thyroid gland.
  • Foods such as curd, fish, meat, eggs, radish, and oatmeal contain a good amount of iodine. So intake of these in the diet regularly help control thyroid problems
  • Gomutra (Cow urine)
  • Sunrays. Walk in the morning sunlight for around 10-15 minutes.
  • Drinking of coconut oil improves the functioning of the thyroid hormone.
  • Take diets like carrots, pumpkin, sprouts, spinach, wheatgrass, seaweeds as these are rich in iodine content.

The answer is that yes yoga might treat this disease depending upon the stage of thyroid from which one starts the practice of yoga.   • Fish Pose (Matsyasana)

  • Camel Pose (Ustrasana)

  • Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar)

Kapalbhati and Pranayamas such as Nadi Shodhana Pranayama, Bhastrika Pranayama, and Ujjayi  Pranayama, all of these pranayamas, Surya Namaskar, and Kapalbhati are beneficial and important in reducing the symptoms of the thyroid.

  • The Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)

There are some types of compressing and stretching in the neck while performing this pose of advanced Bhujangasana. This pose helps in regulating the thyroid glands.

  • Bridge Formation Pose (Setubandh Sarvangasana)
